Abstract

Mung beans are one of the non-pharmacological ways to increase hemoglobin (Hb) levels in the blood. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), globally the prevalence of iron deficiency in developing countries is two to five times the prevalence of anemia. "The WHO organization says anemia affects 1.62 million people in the world (24.8%)". "Anemia in general is a condition where hemoglobin and erythrocyte levels are lower than normal". In Indonesia alone, anemia of nutrition is still one of the nutritional problems (in addition to three other nutritional problems, namely lack of calories, vitamin A deficiency, and endemic goiter) which are the main ones in Indonesia. "Nutritional anemia is caused by iron deficiency, folic acid, and / / vitamin B12, all of which are rooted in inadequate intake, low bioavailability and still high helminthiasis." The cases of anemia in Indonesia are mostly caused by iron deficiency which is also called iron nutrition anemia. Therefore, iron nutrition anemia is one of the focuses in improving community nutrition in addition to vitamin A deficiency and Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD)."Iron deficiency anemia is also one of the most common disorders, especially during pregnancy." Pregnant women are declared anemia if hemoglobin (Hb) <11 mg / L. Green beans are one of the ingredients that contain substances needed for the formation of blood cells so that they can overcome the effects of decreased Hb. Mung beans can play a role in the formation of red blood cells and prevent anemia because the phytochemical content in green beans is so complete that it can help the process of hematopoiesis. "Mung beans also contain vitamins and minerals. Minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, iron, sodium and potassium are mostly found in green beans. " Iron deficiency before pregnancy if not treated can cause pregnant women to suffer from anemia. "This condition can increase the risk of death during childbirth, give birth to a baby with a low birth weight, fetus and mother susceptible to infection, miscarriage, and increase the risk of premature babies born".
